A peek at the weddings we have been shooting in September – from a serene woodland wedding to a glamorous country retreat. Also, Lina escaped to Italy for some family time, and we captured a very special one year old’s birthday!
We probably know a bit too much about the couples we photograph. Everything from how they met, what their animals are called to how they take their tea and their favourite kind of cake. Why? We just know these details make a difference when we’re photographing their wedding. Weddings matter, every one of them.
As we watch the leaves of our bright red plum tree trickle down to the floor from our office window (how poetic, I know!) we’re reflecting on a pretty awesome summer. Of course, when you do a job like ours, we’re generally describing the year as awesome, but this summer seems to have really swept us off our feet. After a fantastic spring which saw us return to some of our favourite venues such as South Farm and the Granary Estates, we also shot/saw two of our closest friends get married under the beautiful Scottish sunshine. This year we introduced wedding slideshows, so we’ve mixed in some images and slideshows here.
We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Christine and Lee a number of times over the last few years at weddings we’ve shot, so we were thrilled when they chose us for their own wedding photography, knowing they were a pair of awesome humans. This was further proven when they asked us to do an alternative engagement shoot they could use for their Save the Date’s – at Santa Pod Raceway!
Colourful Cuba! One of the most fabulously unique wedding trends we’ve seen for a while, and we absolutely love it. So much so, that in collaboration with the other winners of the 2016 Four Counties Wedding Awards we captured it for this styled wedding shoot. This was our first foray into a styled shoot, and we really enjoyed it, and it in particular gave Lina a chance to go back to her directing skills!
September 2016 saw the introduction of Masters of UK Wedding Photography – the UK arm of the highly successful Masters of Wedding Photography which began in the Netherlands and has since spread to all over the world.
Four collections a year from September are judged by a changing international jury to present new awards to the best, most exceptional and innovative wedding photos every three months. Photographers who win an award may call themselves Masters of UK Wedding Photography!
We were both honoured to receive awards in this first year, and Tom even reached the Top 6 of the year! Here’s a look at our award winning images for the 2016-2017 season.
Being the day the new Doctor Who is announced (woop for a lady!) we had to share our sneak peek from this Doctor Who wedding yesterday as it is rather fitting! Our Dr Who superfan groom Marco protects his companion Verity from all that might challenge them in their lives ahead….
Verity was in stunning bespoke Sharon Bowen-Dryden separates whilst Marco’s jacket was cut from the same reel of cloth as 11th Doctor Matt Smith’s! It was a day of unicorn balloons, bbq eats, space hoppers and [not many] circus skills – we loved it! Jodie Whittaker may be the 13th Doctor but at their Hunsbury Hill wedding yesterday it was all about Marco and Verity!

A pre wedding shoot up on Therfield Heath in Hertfordshire is glorious, but so dependent on the weather. Thankfully Mother Nature was on our side for Sarah and Anthony’s pre wedding shoot and boy did she come through. The sun shone beautifully through the trees as we walked with Sarah and Anthony to relax a few nerves, but then it was time for fun in the sunshine. We had to remind ourselves this was work!

There’s never a time to stop learning, and having felt hugely inspired by award-winning Chicago photojournalist Candice Cusic on meeting her at the European Fearless Conference in March 2016, I signed up for her workshop in association with the Nine Dots conference last November. My day started stressfully, with missing two buses to the studio thanks to my Oyster card ‘hiding’ from me in my bag, and I hurried into the room just as things were starting. Thankfully seeing some photographer friends and Candice’s immediate warmth in her introduction settled me in! (Oh and coffee.)
