When a couple get in touch and say their wedding is lasting a whole weekend, we know immediately that we are the right photographer for them. We are 100% behind the idea of a wedding being a whole weekend. Why confine your celebrations to one day? So when Alex and Alex [aka Alex squared, or boy Alex – girl Alex) got in touch to ask if we would be interested in travelling to beautiful north Wales to provide their Trevor Hall wedding photography we were super excited.
Trevor Hall Wedding Photography = Partying for days
Alex and Alex are known for their partying ways amongst friends and family, with their long list of festivals attended forming their table plan. Trevor Hall is a beautiful wedding venue, a luxury private hire stately home in Llangollen, north Wales. We have mentioned before that we love these types of wedding, everyone arriving on the Friday and staying in the house for a big ole party wedding weekend. Any wedding that requires a wristband is always going to be a winner!
Cool yet comfortable
Girl Alex had a rather gorgeous dress and cape combo which is always a winner if you want the beauty of a veil but not the faff of it ripping your hair out whenever the wind changes. She also went for some uber comfy converse. There is a train of thought that you can get some comfy trainers to ‘change into’ for your wedding day, but if you want to be comfortably running around all day why the hell not just have trainers? For a venue such as Trevor Hall where you are essentially in grass all day and had steps to manoeuvre then it’s a great choice all round.
The great outdoors
How incredible is this view from the gardens of Trevor Hall for your wedding ceremony? Alex and Alex chose to go down the celebrant-led route, so they could enjoy the wonderful views for their ceremony. Celebrant led is the fastest growing type of wedding in the UK and rightly so in our book. Don’t be confused in thinking it is the same as being married by a council registrar. With a celebrant you can literally get married anywhere you want to; in a field, up a hill, in a shed… with waves lapping at your toes if you want to. There are no restrictions and silly ‘under a roof’ rules. Your ceremony can also be much more personal and fun too. Who doesn’t want to get involved with mexican waves as a wedding guest? Here celebrant Maxine Beech got everyone stoked and raring to go before the lovely long entrance of the wedding party.
It takes two
Alex and Alex knew that with an entrance as long and spectacular as that, their Trevor Hall wedding photography would need to be undertaken by a wedding photography team of two. With Tom up near the house and Lina at the top of the rather long aisle, we were able to capture all the key looks and moments of this magical part of the wedding ceremony for our couple. Then Tom was also able to showcase the sheer epicness of the location with the welsh hills backdrop, whilst Lina was able to get those intimate moments between our couple, but also the emotion felt by their guests that Alex and Alex will have likely missed.
Fun in the sun
There was no way these guys were just going to stand around with their guests enjoying champagne until it was time to eat. Big jugs of gin cocktails kept guests topped up whilst delicious canapes also included tacos and mini margueritas. Now that is our kind of wedding food.
Nature’s bounty
As well as the stunning gardens and views, Trevor Hall is blessed with a gorgeous greenhouse which had perfect light. Heading towards it with our happy couple, we were stalked by a happy little kitty, so who could resist letting it photobomb the pics? It stuck with us right through their couples shoot, so there may well be a disproportionate amount of the young cat in the final edit of their wedding set. Not that Alex and Alex seemed to mind, after all, they know we’re bit cat fans and especially love cats at weddings!
Votes for women
After a grand high energy entrance into the marquee (and quite right too), caterer Cheeky Chilli provided an absolutely stunning meal in a delicious tapas style (and gave us loads, we love them!). When it came to the speeches, girl Alex lead the way in what was to be a set of speeches highlight not only her absolute badassery as a DR, but then highlighted some other fabulous females in the family and friends. Not to be outdone of course, boy Alex, also DR, gave a hilarious speech only to be upstaged by his mother in law, with a slightly sexual unintentional innuendo. Like the guests, we too were crying with laughter. Speeches were also given by the best man and maid of honour, but the surprise headliner was boy Alex’s brother, who not only went on to say some lovely words about him, but to break with convention and make most of his speech about girl Alex and her amazing achievements, as well as her commitment to feminism and womens rights. His whole speech was a tribute to the feminist cause, and when he finished the raucous applause brought down the house. A truly magical moment we hope was captured on film!
Golden brown
We knew our couple were going to hit the dancefloor hard when the party started to we wanted to make sure their second couple session was at sunset, and mother nature thankfully obliged. The hall itself is stunning with dark oak panels and wood, with a stunning staircase, and we knew the light was going to fall perfectly at a certain time. It would be understandable to concentrate all your Trevor Hall wedding photography on the amazing landscape that surrounds it, but we wanted to give our couple gorgeous memories of their host house too, not to mention something a little different. And oh that light!
Party rockers in the house tonight
After the glorious choice of Jimi Hendrix’s Little Wing for their first dance, it was all out for the evening dancefloor shenanigans. Liverpool band Louise and the Lovebugs kept everyone moving, and there was glitter, props, lifts, baps and an open gin bar. Happy days!
