Alex and Matt found us by having a bridesmaid in common with another of our couples, and we are forever grateful to the lovely Danielle for recommending us. Alex and Matt searched high and low across the country for their wedding venue before finding the beaut that is luxury outdoor venue Ever After in Dartmoor, and we were thrilled when they asked us to provide their Devon wedding photography. Road trip!
But this wasn’t the first road trip we went on for Alex and Matt, having travelled to beautiful Zurich for their pre wedding shoot, as they were living out in the stunning Swiss city at the time. They even got engaged in beautiful St Moritz so it was perfect for their photo shoot to be in Switzerland. Heading out there we spent a great day with them ending with some delicious dim sum, so when their wedding day came around we were raring to go!
Singing in the rain
After heading to the venue the day before to check it out in the sunshine, the morning of the wedding mother nature had other ideas. However we are firm advocates of rain never stopping play, so we joined the girls and guys respectively and found Alex and Matt in joyful spirits. Lots of beautiful details had been planned for this day, the girls in beautiful dressing gowns and lots of cute cones of confetti were sitting pretty. Alex’s stunning Suzanne Neville dress hung next to the pale blue Monsoon bridesmaids dresses, which were to beautifully compliment the guys’ blue suits from Slater’s Menswear. Dartmoor Flowers provided a stunning bouquet and accompanying florals.
Personal touches
Although the rain meant the couple couldn’t have their planned outdoor wedding in the courtyard, the cosy atmosphere of the little barn made for a beautiful ceremony. We’ll let you in to a secret, we actually enjoy wet wedding days. Everything relaxes and it’s hilarious watching guests try and keep themselves dry, usually giggling about the rain. As the guests hurried into the gorgeous glass building, they enjoyed champagne and aperol spritz. Alex and Matt both work in the food industry, so choosing a venue that would let them bring their own alcohol was important to them. this was also reflected in the meal, each course had a specific wine which had been chosen to accompany it.
There’s always time for confetti
A break in the rain meant we were able to get out into the pretty grounds of Ever After and get some outdoor group shots with the wedding party and family, before going for a short walk with Alex and Matt so they could have a breather. As we were out Alex expressed that it was a shame they couldn’t have had the confetti, and we never like to accept something can’t happen, so a quick chat to the venue and we had clearance for an indoor confetti shot. A what a shot! The energy in the room was fantastic and we loved the enthusiasm all the wedding guests gave the moment, which made for some fantastic Devon wedding photography.
Warming up with schnapps
After a delicious meal and some hard warming speeches with some ‘he didn’t just say that!’ moments, it was time to whisk our couple out for some portraits by the river. Alex is girl not to be phased by a bit of water, so we stopped by their room to pick up her trainers so she could climb down to the river’s edge – a true Lina and Tom bride for sure! Alex and Matt were able to enjoy the calm flowing water of the river
Party like you’re in the Alps
As dusk fell it was time to party, and boy do these guys party. In the true spirit of the apres ski they enjoyed at the many ski resorts which their tables were named after, out came the schnapps skis and we knew it was going to be a great night. A whole table full of schnapps and spirits came out, alongside a snacks and sweets table, as well as a beautifully adorned cake of cheese as a nod to Matt’s previous role in cheese buying. Then it was dancing and schappes o’clock!
Watching everyone dance to the band and throw back multiple shots was utter joy for us as party hard wedding photographers, and we may have happily indulged in a cheeky schnapps or two. After all, it was a celebration right? As the fab band Black and Gold rocked the dancefloor until the early hours, naturally the bride had her perfect dirty dancing moment to end the day.
Lastly, the win best wedding hashtag of our eleven year career so far. Of course, as you can probably see, it was anything but average!
