Festive Love! Night Time London Proposal Photography at Christmas
Spreading a little festive cheer: looking back at this magical Covent Garden marriage proposal photography
As we head into a different kind of Christmas this year, we’ve not been in to the capital to photograph any engagements recently, or secretly take London proposal photography and we sure have missed it. So we are looking back lovingly at this time last year when we photographed Konstantin proposing to Katarina under the magical Christmas tree in Covent Garden.
The Ruse
Konstantin and Katarina were coming to London from Germany to enjoy her birthday weekend and he secretly arranged us to be his London proposal photographer. We ADORE photographing marriage proposals, there is something about the moments when you are hidden in the shadows waiting for the big moment, and our hearts are beating so hard we feel like they’re going to burst out of our chests!
The London proposal shoot started with our couple heading to the ice rink at Somerset House to take in the festive atmosphere and sip something warm and lovely. Little did Katarina know we were there too, pretending to photograph the skaters but really setting the scene leading up to the big moment to come, like paparazzi but giggling, happy loving ones.
Capturing the Atmosphere
After a little while we excitedly made our way over to Covent Garden where Konstantin had planned to propose under the giant Christmas Tree. If you are considering a wedding proposal at night, it’s important to choose a proposal photographer who is capable shooting low light without flash or additional lighting, as you can’t really do that without drawing attention to yourself! Thankfully our trusty Canon 5d Mark IV’s combined with the Christmas lights did just fine and kept us incognito as our happy couple arrived, and began to take pictures of each other by the tree.
Almost Scuppered!
Like all good romantic comedies, there was almost a hiccup in the plan. Just as Konstantin was giving Katarina another of the treasure hunting cards he had lovingly prepared for her throughout the day, and looked like he was about to go for it, a group of Santa hat clad runners came by! A quick shift of position and we were back on track, just as he sunk to his knee…
A Magical Moment of London proposal photography
To the obliviousness of selfie-takers around them, Konstantin asked and she accepted! The magic of the Christmas lights, wet pavements and festive music made this a truly magical London marriage proposal in Covent Garden! When choosing us to photograph a proposal you get the bonus of two angles on the big moment too.
The Ruse Part II
On other wedding proposal photography shoots, after the big proposal we have eased ourselves up to the couple and been introduced. Konstantin wanted to keep up the charade a little longer, so they went off for a glass of celebratory champagne. He then told Katarina he’d booked a London proposal photographer for an engagement shoot to remember the moment, and gave us a call to tell us where they were. Of course we absolutely knew as we were still covertly shooting them! We ‘arrived’ to start the shoot, and made sure to ask Katarina excitedly all about the special moment that had just happened…

Then it was time to enjoy photographing this beautiful pair across Covent Garden and their joy was evident. This London Covent Garden proposal shoot was so good for our own Christmas spirit and we were positively bouncing around!
