We’ve had the pleasure of meeting Christine and Lee a number of times over the last few years at weddings we’ve shot, so we were thrilled when they chose us for their own wedding photography, knowing they were a pair of awesome humans. This was further proven when they asked us to do a Santa Pod engagement shoot they could use for their Save the Dates – yes we were going to shoot them at Santa Pod Raceway!
Lee is a semi-professional Drifter – that’s the motorsport, not the American 50s Do Wop group, and Christine is very active behind the scenes at events too. So as Drifting is a massive part of their life they wanted to reflect it in their engagement shoot – hurrah! We love it when couples choose to physically do something in a shoot, it can add a brilliant new dimension.
With the help of some good friends and their cars, which included European Drift Champion Alexis [Lex] Drew and Lisa Branch, and some coloured smoke tyres! Thankfully Mother Nature was up for the shoot too and gave us the most beautiful day as we shot at the Drift What Ya Brung event at Santa Pod. To top off the day, once we had finished shooting Christine got her high vis back on (note with Lee’s ‘Colgate’-smile logo on – nice!) to oversee Tom and I having a ride in the cars! Tom was with Lex and Lee was I’m sure a little more gentle with me – not that he needed to be! There are a couple of snaps from this experience at the end – not easy to keep a camera in hand! If we had the time, we’d certainly give Drifting a go! Not only was this Santa Pod engagement shoot super fun to do but we were really happy with the final set – we went for a stylised look to evoke US motorsport imagery. Christine and Lee look pretty cool to us!
Thanks too to Bryn Williams and team for sending us some great little films of us at work! We’ve created a little behind the scenes insight to this fantastic drifting photo shoot which you can see below.
