Long days, short nights and endless sunshine – that’s what a summer wedding is made of right? Well maybe not endless sunshine… but August was the third and last month of our summer bonanza, and boy were there some treats in store! Grab some summer wedding planning inspiration right here…
Kate and Jack – South Farm, Cambridgeshire
Kate works in events and Jack in production so we were expecting a particularly awesome day, and we were particularly honoured they chose us too. The palette was powder blue and silver, which featured in everything from the bridesmaid dresses to the stationery, as well as cake and the gorgeous flowers from Wild Frost.
After a beautiful outdoor ceremony, with slightly cooler weather than previous weeks, we headed inside the barn at South Farm for a gorgeous reception. We loved the little touches on the tables from the homemade place cards and menus to the little gin bottle wedding favours – a couple after our own hearts. After the reception we snuck off with our couple to grab some couple’s photos as a golden sunset bathed the farm in a gorgeous glow. Then it was party time! The groom started things off on the decks and it was all go from there!
A fun day with a wonderful couple! You can also read more about their day on the Plans and Presents blog.

Katie and Steve – Essendon Country Club
It’s always lovely when a bridesmaid of a wedding you have shot chooses you too! Katie and Steve’s summer wedding day featured a Disney theme, including lush rose centrepieces by the Wedding Flower Company and the coolest 1963 Ford Fairlane vintage wedding car!
The temperature had gone up several notches overnight so we had a pretty sweltering day at Essendon Country Club, but this did mean we were able to enjoy the grounds. We particularly loved our jaunt in a golf buggy during the couple’s photos.
As day turned to night everyone piled on to the dancefloor to party to the sounds of a live saxophonist. Katie wanted to make sure she could party all night so she changed into some awesome pink trainers for the evening. A super fun day!

Lauryn and Colin – Minstrel Court, Hertfordshire
The day the heatwave well and truly ended! Ironically, Lauryn and Colin had originally picked a December date but then moved it to August as they wanted to enjoy their outdoor wedding venue. Sadly we had spectacular torrential downpours that day – but it didn’t ruin the fun. Lauryn and Colin had a gorgeous ceremony over a lake followed by a fun reception in a modern barn. Entertainment included fete games from Dolly Dimples, our magician favourite Lee Smith and of course plenty of dancing considering the bride and groom did a DJ set! Here’s a masterclass on dealing with rain on your wedding day – it doesn’t mean it has to be a wash out…

Olivia and Calvin, West Street Vineyard, Essex
West Street Vineyard is the perfect summer wedding venue, especially if you like something a little different. Olivia, who is the sister of one of our previous brides, and Calvin chose to get married among the vines at this gorgeous venue in Suffolk as they wanted an outdoorsy wedding day.
Olivia chose a simple beaded boho-style dress from Maggie Sottero and Calvin looked very dapper in a lightweight royal blue suit (and leopard print socks!) – a great choice for a summer wedding. After a lovely ceremony the guests enjoyed a plentiful braai dinner (Calvin is from South Africa) washed down with some excellent wines from the vineyard. Tables were named after national parks, to reflect the couple’s love of the outdoors, with a donation to the Rhino charity Olivia works with as wedding favours. As darkness fell we all piled inside for a night on the dancefloor fuelled by many Jaegarbombs!

Sam and Charlie, Cambridge
After plenty of bustling big weddings we were glad to enjoy Sam and Charlie’s intimate wedding that took in the sights of Cambridge. Small weddings allow us to really get involved with all those present, and feel like we are truly part of it all. We make up a decent percentage of the heartbeats in the room and really, really feel the love on the day! We started with a joyful ceremony at the Cambridge registry office followed by a stroll through the city and punting from the Mill Pond. The reception was held at the Hotel du Vin, with a fun 1920s theme including Sam’s stunning Augusta Jones dress. We ended the day with some uber cool portraits down in the venue’s wine cellar.

Penny and Adrian – Haughley Park Barn, Suffolk
Penny is the third in a group of friends we have had the absolute pleasure of photographing, so we were looking forward to seeing many old faces, plus returning to Haughley Park Barn after many years.
Penny chose an amazing tea length wedding dress from Fairy Goth Mother, all out alternative bride here! Lina especially loved that peach underskirt. After a fun ceremony we enjoyed a trek up the hill with our couple for some couple’s photos and then back down the hill for the reception!
For the reception, all the guests enjoyed jazz and ice cream at what was surely the perfect summer wedding reception! Games were aplenty including some intense welly wanging! Inside the barn, the couple chose to theme their tables after their favourite musicals. After speeches and some delicious food the band was ready! The awesome BB Collective kept everyone on the dancefloor all night long.
A wonderful end to our high summer weddings in gorgeous Suffolk.
