Looking at this picture, you’d think we’d gone back to the 1950s! We had so much fun shooting Katy and Garry’s vintage-styled Cambridge wedding, and we’d love to tell you about it.
Katy and Garry had a particularly touching story, having met via an organisation called WAY – Widowed and Young. They wanted their day to be different from many weddings – they kept it relaxed, intimate and focussed on the things and people they love. At the centre of everything was the love of their family, who’d supported them both through really tough times.
We started the day with Katy, shooting her and her mother getting ready for the ceremony. Katy looked chose a tea-length ChiChi London dress, increasingly a firm favourite amongst alternative brides, along with colourful Irregular Choice shoes. We also loved her matching blue button bouquet; a really unique idea and you can keep it forever. Garry had a matching button buttonhole with Star Wars pin too!
Tom then dropped in on the boys getting ready, a little surprise that Katy had arranged for Garry as they initially booked a short coverage package. Tom took some relaxed photos of them at home, getting suited and booted for the day. Garry had some similarly amazing shoes too, black and metallic Irregular Choice boots to go with his blue suit, which had Tom rushing to look them up the next day only to find them no longer available :(
The first part of the day was in Cambridge, with the ceremony at the Registry Office with their nearest and dearest friends and family. After the couple tied the knot they took a jaunt around the city in a vintage VW Beetle, taking in the sights in style. We particularly love the shots near Kings College – Cambridge always puts on a good show, especially on a fine Spring day!
As their guests headed off to the pub, we took Katy and Garry away for some couples shots in the city. Tucked away between centuries-old Cambridge colleges, we found this gorgeous slice of light! Absolutely perfect for capturing our Cambridge-loving newlyweds.
The beautiful weather meant we were able to enjoy a casual stroll around Cambridge – we even made some friends on the way round! Well Katy did, this lad didn’t necessarily want Garry in the shot!
The reception was held at the chocolate-box Three Horseshoes in Madingley, and the venue was decked out with their very favourite things. We had gaming and comic-inspired décor, a thousand paper cranes and Game of Thrones Cocktails.
The most special part of the day was the speeches – so emotional, not a dry eye in the house. It was so heart-warming to see Katy and Garry start their new life together with their family and friends beside them.
The guests tucked into a fab lunch and then it was time to cut the cake! A simple white cake, made by their good friends and with a Star Wars inspired topper, hid a vibrant rainbow centre. Delicious and stunning to look at! Check out their site at Quality Cake Company.
Then it was time to hit the road again – Katy and Garry were so up for trying something new and Katy in particular adores a sunset, so we planned a special photoshoot for the end of the day. We headed over to our friends at Childerley, who’d kindly let us use their grounds, to capture our newlyweds as the sun was setting. We took some gorgeous simple sunset shots followed by these dramatic photos featuring coloured smoke. We all had so much fun ☺
After our evening photoshoot they headed to a local pub where guests had gathered for evening drinks. This was a super cosy end to a superb day.
Congratulations Katy and Garry – we were delighted to celebrate with you! The moral of the story folks, don’t ever be afraid to do things your way.
