Powerful PC build for Lightroom and Premiere editing for Photographers and Videographers
Here are the specs of my recent PC build, using the highest spec components for lightning fast editing and exporting.
It is incredibly quick at all tasks, especially with the AI editing tasks thanks to the powerful GPU
For example, the Denoise function takes around 4-5 seconds per image. My old PC was 2 minutes!
Also worth noting the Asus Pro-Art range comes with Free months of the FULL Adobe CC suite, so if you buy an Pro Art Motherboard, and GPU you get 6 months Free (£168 value)
CPU
Intel® Core™ i9-14900K
The absolute top tier CPU that was currently available, stepping down the range there are some good options for performance vs cost, but I wanted the ultimate power for video work
Motherboard
Asus PROART B760-CREATOR
A good option, without all of the features of the higher models, I>E less SSD slots, but has everything needed
RAM
Corsair Vengeance DDR5 RAM 64gb
Super fast RAM, and as Lightroom is a RAM hungry piece of software, I would say 64GB is essential
GPU
ASUS ProArt GeForce RTX™ 4070 Ti 12GB OC Edition
A good balance between the ultimate performance and power of the 4080/90 range, but at a significantly lower cost
SSD
Samsung 990 PRO NVMe M.2 SSD
I used a 2tb for OS and software install, and a 4tb as a working drive
PSU
Corsair RM1000x 80 PLUS Gold
A good power supply is essential. In my 25 years of PC building, by far the most common failure has been with power supplies, so I no longer go for the cheap option.
Cooling
You may want to look at water-cooling options for this CPU, as it kicks out a lot of heat. and also what will fit with you case setup.
But I have kept it simple, with the highest spec standard cooler.
Final Thoughts
One of the joys of PC building is selecting and tuning the right components for your usage case, with photo and video editing it is very important to pay attention to the speed ratings on all components, to avoid any potential bottlenecks, for example there is no point having all the processing speed, if it is being saved of onto a slow hard drive, that will become the bottleneck.
Think of your workflow, how you work with files, and the steps you could take to improve that, and at the same time being aware of data integrity and backup solutions
