Need to warm up? We’re having a look back at each high summer wedding we shot in August. We guarantee our fabulous couples, who gave us everything from tear-jerking speeches to confetti cannons, will warm your cockles. This month of thrills and spills included a mansion house party wedding weekend in Devon and adventurous tree-climbing newlyweds…
Wedding at home in Kent
August began with a trip to the garden of England for May and Rupert’s Kentish summer wedding. We had sunshine and showers, which made for an interesting day of dipping in and out of the marquee, but this meant we were able to take a variety of indoor and outdoor shots of our smiley couple. May looked incredible in her Pronovias dress, and we loved her bridesmaid’s lace and sage green gowns too. Ever heard of ‘hora loca’? It means crazy hour! This is where everyone plays dress up on the dance floor at south American weddings, the first time we’ve seen a bride dressed as a jester. After an hour of craziness everyone refuelled with gooey cheese toasties (fantastic idea for evening wedding food) and then rocked out to the wedding band, The Dukes, who might just be our new favourite wedding band!

A humanist ceremony at Darwin College
Next for our August summer weddings we headed to Darwin College, Cambridge for one of the most energetic weddings ever! Holly and David packed so much into their day – a lush outdoor ceremony by the River Cam; punt watching during the ceremony (one hen do punt came by with a blow up doll in it, natch), a hilarious a game of Twister and an evening ceilidh. We also had fun with creative couples shots up a tree! Having spotted a big gnarly tree over the River Cam, Holly and David, as keen climbers, were game for some photos perched on a branch. We were a little concerned about Holly’s Needle and Thread dress, but she took on the challenge like a champ.

Summer elegance at South Farm
Our third wedding of the month was Kate and Chris’ big day, which was blessed with stunning summer weather and a picturesque rural location. We started the day off with a very important task, taking photos of their gorgeous cat Alfie, what a poser! The ceremony was held at Ashwell Church before an elegant wedding reception at South Farm. Kate and Chris had worked on the décor themselves, it was so personal to them, so as night fell Tom spotted an opportunity to show this off. The result was an incredible night shot of the couple, framed with their beautiful wedding décor. We know they are going to love looking back on their august wedding photos for years to come.

A Devon wedding party weekend
Helen and Tufty’s wedding in Devon was full of wonderful stories. The couple first dated as teenagers, before going their separate ways, reuniting years later. They even still had the bracelets they’d given each other as teens, which they both wore on the day! We’d met the couple a few years ago at another wedding, where Tufty was best man. This was a wedding with bags of personality so we’re super happy they asked us to shoot their big day too.
They hired the spectacular Huntsham Court for the whole weekend; guests arrived on the Friday and were welcomed with fish and chips and cosy evening drinks. On Saturday, the wedding day, the boys began with a round of golf and the girls enjoyed a relaxed morning of breakfast, hair and make-up. Then onto the ceremony – Huntsham Court is a Tudor Gothic mansion with the most incredible light and bags of historic charm – perfect for taking photographs. Happy wedding photographers! After the ceremony we captured some quiet pictures of the couple in the grounds, before heading to the dance floor to round off the weekend in style. We didn’t document Sunday’s hangovers though this time…

Star Wars Wedding
Our old friend Darth Vader (flanked by Stormtroopers, obviously) made an appearance at Katie and Andy’s wedding at the Old Hall Ely, a special surprise for the groom, a Star Wars superfan. This lush outdoor garden wedding with beautiful flowers by Larkspur Floral featured emotional speeches (we cried!), a doughnut tower and his and hers Colin and Connie Caterpillar cakes. A cute idea for a wedding cake if you want something different (pop that one on your Pinterest board!) The day ended with an incredible sunset that we were so thankful for, the bride and groom looked incredible against nature’s beautiful backdrop.

Doing the double at the Old Hall Ely
The very next day we returned to the Old Hall Ely for Sara and Luke’s wedding. A real indie affair, with styling by The Little Lending Company, a Jenny Packham wedding dress from Teokath and flowers from The Country Garden florist. Our bride and groom started the day at Poet’s House, a lovely setting for getting ready, before heading to the Old Hall Ely for a garden ceremony. After a picture perfect ceremony, the weather was just incredible, the newlyweds headed off for a ride in a horse and carriage. It was such a treat to capture this in the vast Old Hall Ely gardens. At the end the day that unforgettable sunset came back and we took with some picturesque shots of the happy couple. Perfect.

The triple bill high
Charlotte and Ian like to party hard, and in particular we were really impressed with the bride too – she was five months pregnant but danced all night long! We rounded off a busy month with this fun couple’s bash at Granary Estates. Charlotte wore a head-turning Private Label by G for Kenneth Winston blush pink dress, complemented just perfectly with styling by Hall and Co event design. We’ve shot at the Granary Barns many times, but the main barn has never looked so stunning. This was our third wedding of the weekend, but our party-loving couple, their friends and family, combined the spectacular Lovelight Entertainment, kept us on the dance floor until the lights went up. We slept really well that night!

August went out on a high! We had such fun this month, mainly because each wedding was so different. From mansion house takeovers to intimate ceremonies by the River Cam, we loved the unique touches each couple put into their summer wedding day. Such a joy to shoot – thank you everyone!
