We love winter weddings so much that we got married in December. We love their cosy feel, the twinkly lights and, sometimes, snow! This winter we got two chances to play in the snow with our couples thanks to the Beast from the East. Read on for some winter wedding planning inspiration and a taster of what we got up to.
Zoe and Kriss – cosy splendour at South Farm
South Farm is a much-loved summer venue, but it’s equally gorgeous for winter weddings too. The house is transformed with fairy lights, stars and evergreens and provides a gorgeous backdrop for your ceremony. Outside, the famed tree-lined drive sparkles with fairy lights, and the bare trees make for really dramatic couples photos.
Zoe and Kriss chose frosted pine cones as placecard holders alongside a towering snowy cake to bring some winter magic to their wedding day. Zoe’s bouquet by the awesome Clare Jones featured beautiful deep red flowers, more pine cones and ice white roses, a lovely seasonal combination to sit alongside their movie theme. We also loved Kriss’ dark purple suit too, a unique and alternative choice for a groom which looked fab next to Zoe’s stunning Willow by Watters dress from our faves The Tailor’s Cat
As well as the pretty outside shots we were able to take some cosy couples portraits inside the grand house too. South Farm do such a good job of making the place feel Christmassy, we couldn’t resist playing around with bokeh for this photo.

Charlotte and James – snow-dusted grounds at Anstey Hall
Golden light plus snow? We’re sold. We were so pleased to have a dusting of snow for Charlotte and James’ winter wedding at Anstey Hall. It’s a combination we’ve never shot before, so we were glad to tick that off the bucket list.
For the reception, our couple hung mistletoe from all the chairs and decorated the tables with big church candles, holly and deep blue accents. The rest of the decor came courtesy of the majestic Venetian Ballroom.

Sam and Will – a colourful wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns
Just because your wedding is in winter, doesn’t mean you have to choose muted colours. Sam and Will went bright which we adore! Check out those bright red Louboutins! The weather went bright too, we were gifted with yet more golden light for this Cambridgeshire winter wedding.
We love the flow of Sam’s Stella York dress from The Tailor’s Cat combined with that gorgeous fluffy shrug for perfect Winter wedding style! Sam’s bouquet by The Manor Florist featured bright red, blue and white flowers. The cake was decorated with the same flowers, alongside a purple cake topper.

Natalie and Daniel – a simple ceremony then off to the pub!
Our penultimate winter wedding was Natalie and Daniel’s intimate do at the Cambridge Register Office followed a good old knees up at the Fox and Duck pub. Our couple kept things simple, both choosing to get ready at home before heading to the ceremony. We couldn’t resist getting some photos of their amazing motorbikes whilst we were there too!
We were well and truly in the depths of winter with this February wedding, so the day was short and a tad wet too. Rather than fighting with the light we focused on getting some gorgeous, cosy night shots of our couple before moving on to the thrills and spills of the party. They had hired a rock band for their reception who were awesome!

Katie and Elliot – making the most of the snow at Thatch Barn, Yelling
Our couple had originally planned a Spring wedding, with photos among the daffodils at this Cambridgeshire wedding venue, but the Beast from the East had other plans. Instead of a floral display we had a snow shower instead, no problem for us. The cosiness of the Thatch Barn and fairy lights were no bother for the guests as they tucked into comforting fish and chips, and the gorgeous colourful flowers from Clare Jones shone brightly against the grey sky. Katie’s gorgeous dress is LouLou Bridal from The Tailor’s Cat.
No frolicking in the daffodils for portraits? No problem. Katie and Elliot brought along their wellies so we had some fun in the snow, but when it came to romance, we captured this beautiful, sparkling outside shot instead. The one thing you can say about us that we’re never phased by a bit of weather…

Winter weddings are where we often get to flex our creative muscles, the low light and temperamental weather means we have to work on our feet but it usually makes for amazing results. We were so pleased to get snow this year and the incredible light with it creates the best memories. Thank you to our couples for choosing to have their weddings in the winter and especially to our brides for getting out there and not worrying about getting dresses dirty!
