Being Cambridge wedding photographers we tend to do a lot of pre-wedding and engagement shoots in the city, which we love as it is beautiful, but it is also wonderful to get out of the city every now and then, and we were excited when Rachael & Nik booked us for their April 2013 Berkshire wedding and told us that the beach at Wells-next-the-Sea was special to them.
I really love the sea. Since I was a very little girl, I have loved the smell of the sea, the breeze on your face and the salt on your lips when you are next to it. This is probably from the excitement of travelling to Italy every summer, and getting the boat over to Dover, which was so exciting to me, and I found the journey thrilling. As I have got older, I have still always enjoyed the sea and water, and wanted to be near it, finding comfort living in Liverpool with walks along the Mersey, then moving to live in Greenwich, looking out over the Thames as my mind drifted in a lecture. I especially love the sea when the British weather comes into it’s own. Yes we all love blue skies and green waters, but there is something hugely poetic about grey skies and blustering wind, as the sea crashes around you.
So when Nik proudly explained he proposed to Rachael in February 2012 whilst the beach was covered in snow, we knew we should take them back to Wells-next-the-Sea in February 2013 for their beach pre wedding shoot. On the day, the sunshine wasn’t around, but we really didn’t mind! Our minds were in overdrive thinking of dramatic landscapes, our couple sharing a kiss as the wind blew around them and beyond was a grey stormy sky…
We have to say thank you to Rachael and Nik as they were absolute troopers! Not only was it damp but it was also freezing! Yet we all persevered though and after a couple of great hours shooting we enjoyed a nice hot cuppa back at the house. We think it was definitely all worth it as you will see below, in particular we loved the look of our heart umbrella against the grey sky.
So what did Nik say on seeing the images? “What can I say… WOW!! The pictures are everything we hoped they’d be and more besides. We spent ages staring at them and still can’t decide which are our favourites…”
Next month we will join Rachael & Nik for their wedding at Easthampstead Park in Bracknell on the eve of my birthday, and we know we’re going to have a great party with the couple and their families to see me in!
