Zlatni Rat, Croatia
If you have visited Croatia then it will come as no surprise that a Croatian beach is on this list for a dream beach proposal. Some of the most romantic and unspoiled beaches in the continent sit along Croatia’s coastline, and one of the most spectacular stretches can be found on the island of Brač at Zlatni Rat.
Located just seven nautical miles from Split on the mainland, Brač is easily accessible via a frequent ferry service. But what sets this place apart from the hundreds of other sandy stretches around Croatia’s exotic-feeling islands? This beach is unique due to the fact that it can change shape depending on the direction of the wind. No two visits to Zlatni Rat will be the same, but you can be sure that the your most important visit will be one to remember.
For an alternative view of the surrounding area, head to the nearby Vidova Gora mountain. The hike to the top of the mountain is relatively easy, and once there you will be rewarded with the best views of Zlatni Rat beach and its famous spit protruding into the Adriatic waters. How could they possibly say no with a backdrop like that?
This trip should absolutely be combined with a visit to Split, the perfect cover for a proposal trip away. This ancient city is Croatia’s second largest city dating back to at least the 3rd Century, and the 305 BC constructed Diocletian’s Palace still stands as the main feature of the city. Whereas tourist hotspot Dubrovnik has a huge amount of tourists and cruise day-trippers, Split feels a little less hectic, with lively nightlife if you’re after it. It also has great scope for daytrips to such Game of Thrones locations as the stunning Klis Fortress (Meereen for the initiated!)
Luskentyre, Scotland
For Scotland’s answer to the Seychelles, look no further than Luskentyre on the beautiful Isle of Harris. Found off the northwest coast of the mainland in Scotland’s Outer Hebrides, this remote island boasts some of the most breathtaking vistas found anywhere in the UK. Luskentyre beach on the northwest tip of the island encapsulates all the beauty of this enchanting place, and is worthy of any A-list proposal.
You won’t be battling for a spot to get down on one knee at Luskentyre, either. The sand stretches for miles along the coastline and rarely gets overcrowded due to its remote location in the Outer Hebrides. If you want to plan an outdoor proposal without having to contend with lots of prying eyes, Luskentyre could be the perfect place to present your diamond ring.
Perfectly combined with a trip to the stunning Isle of Skye, you can enjoy a day or two exploring the rugged landscapes, medieval castles and picturesque fishing villages. Then just get the ferry from Uig in the northwest of the island, for a circa two hour trip over to the Isle of Harris.
Ses Illetes, Formentera
If you dream of proposing in the Balearic Islands, chances are Formentera isn’t on your radar. But, one of the undisputed best beaches in the archipelago can actually be found on Ibiza’s smaller next door neighbour at Ses Illetes. Located on the northern tip of the island, this small slice of paradise will transport you from the Balearics to the sands of the Caribbean.
Whilst it’s located on the smallest of the Balearics, Ses Illetes is anything but a well-kept secret, with TripAdvisor users voting it one of the top 25 beaches in Europe. This option will be perfect for the couple who have their hearts set on a grand public display of affection, as the beach can become quite busy with tourists particularly in the summertime. Surely that’s perfect for an instant party vibe when the question has been popped?
Head out onto the narrow sandy stretch as the crystal clear waters lap in around you before returning to sturdier ground for a celebratory drink at one of the local restaurants.
