Those of you who have given us the pleasure of shooting your weddings will remember back to when we first met you, and we always love to hear your proposal story. We learn so much about you just hearing about it, observing your body language to each other, and usually gauge that we are dealing with two people very much in love. This didn’t happen when we met Ellie, as she came with her dad to see us as James was away working. Strangely for us, this was also the first time we met Ellie, as she had met the lovely Aimee & Sam who had covered the Hotel du Vin wedding fair for us whilst we were exhibiting at the two-day Knebworth Wedding Show. We also know Aimee & Sam make a great impression on people and Ellie was no exception, so it was fantastic she was willing to come and see us about her October wedding to James.
We finally got to meet James when we got together for their pre-wedding shoot in a gorgeously sunny Southwold during August’s heatwave, and over a scrumptious slab of cake thanks to the fabulous Two Magpies Bakery, and yes slab is the right word (!) Tom and I then got to experience that excitement hearing about them getting together and then the proposal, which happened just up the beach in front of the famous Southwold beach huts.
Tom and I were able to let our couple enjoy the sun and a walk amongst the sand dunes before encouraging them to have a little fun in the sea! James is such a smiley guy, we couldn’t help grin so much ourselves, it was quite clear these two were really looking forward to the wedding. Looking for different textures and scenery, we also took them under the peer as we love the rusty girders which hold the famous landmark, the perspective when you stand in front of them is quite something. After a jaunt along the peer our couple looked out over the sea and to the site of the proposal before we made our way over to the huts themselves. To help us decide on which one to photograph them in front of, Ellie suggested we find a red hut to compliment the reds and oranges which were going to make up the autumnal colour scheme of the wedding. It was only when we were photographing them on this particular red hut in the dipping summer sun, did I realise that we were at hut 26 – which so happens to be the date of their wedding! To add to the coincidences, the Red Arrows decided to fly over at that point too, which given that James is in the RAF and Ellie comes from a family of plane enthusiasts was brilliant!
After all feeling thoroughly relaxed having spent a lovely afternoon in the sun together, we went our separate ways and Tom and I hung around in Southwold, as it also happened to be our own anniversary. So after a wander around together we had a truly gorgeous meal at The Crown, you know the kind of meal that makes you close your eyes as you chew, with particular mentions needing to be made for in-house Adnam’s Gin, and also the most incredible chocolate mouse dessert we have ever had!
We’re so excited to be sharing in this lovely couple’s special day tomorrow, also as it will be our first time shooting at Lanwades Park, home of the Animal Health Trust, one of the most exciting new wedding venues to come on the Cambs/Suffolk scene. Here’s a taste of that sunny afternoon…
