Eleanor & James’ Gloriously Sunny Southwold Pre Wedding Shoot

Those of you who have given us the pleasure of shooting your weddings will remember back to when we first met you, and we always love to hear your proposal story. We learn so much about you just hearing about it, observing your body language to each other, and usually gauge that we are dealing with two people very much in love.  This didn’t happen when we met Ellie, as she came with her dad to see us as James was away working. Strangely for us, this was also the first time we met Ellie, as she had met the lovely Aimee & Sam who had covered the Hotel du Vin wedding fair for us whilst we were exhibiting at the two-day Knebworth Wedding Show. We also know Aimee & Sam make a great impression on people and Ellie was no exception, so it was fantastic she was willing to come and see us about her October wedding to James.

We finally got to meet James when we got together for their pre-wedding shoot in a gorgeously sunny Southwold during August’s heatwave, and over a scrumptious slab of cake thanks to the fabulous Two Magpies Bakery, and yes slab is the right word (!) Tom and I then got to experience that excitement hearing about them getting together and then the proposal, which happened just up the beach in front of the famous Southwold beach huts.

Wedding Party Photos: Why you should hire a professional photographer for your destination wedding party back home

In the saturated market of the wedding industry, with so many options of what type of wedding to go for, it is not surprising many couples are opting to have a destination wedding abroad. Many resorts in such hotspots such as Cyprus, Greece, Turkey and Las Vegas are set up to provide flawless wedding experiences against stunning landscapes and romantic backdrops. Couples are also recognising the savings that can be made by having an intimate family gathering abroad. Tell your best mates early enough and they could combine it with their annual holiday. Whatever you do decide on, one thing that is very common now is to have a wedding party back home to invite all your friends and family who couldn’t make it.

As well as a great opportunity to wear your wedding dress again, the wedding party is also the only chance many of your friends and extended family will have to experience the wedding, so don’t be afraid to go all out on those essentials such as a good DJ and a great cake – don’t be afraid to treat the party as you would a wedding reception here! By starting the evening off with cake cutting and a first dance, your guests will just feel like they have turned up as evening guests at your wedding and won’t have missed out too much.

It’s for these reasons above that you should definitely add a professional wedding photographer to the list of essentials for the night. Even if you are just hiring out the village hall, you can leave the memories of the night to us whilst you and your guests party the night away to celebrate the wedding, ensuring you have a great set of wedding party photos to look back on. You will also get special images of the first dance which you usually wouldn’t get abroad, many destination wedding venues offer a photography package which only includes the ceremony and then fifteen minutes worth of photographs of the two of you following the ceremony. For exactly the same reason we offer all day wedding photography, you should consider having a professional wedding photographer present at your party because once it gets started these will be the images that keep you smiling and laughing for years, all your friends throwing shapes on the dance floor and having a great time celebrating your marriage!

Love our work but having a destination wedding? Get in touch as we do travel!

Is a blow out honeymoon a treat or irresponsible? Lina on BBC Radio Cambridgeshire

Those lovely folk at BBC Radio Cambs asked me to participate in a discussion regarding honeymoons and the rise of the honeymoon gift list, as the new trend is for couples to splash out on holidays of a lifetime, despite having spent a large amount on the wedding itself. Those of you who read my blogs regularly will know that I am firmly in the ‘do what you want to do camp’ however many of the Andie Harper Mid-Morning Show listeners disagreed saying it was irresponsible.

Irresponsible is a big word I don’t like – apparently couples should be saving for house deposits instead of blow out honeymoons!  But surely a couple has the right to spend what they like on their wedding and honeymoon? Many couples already have a house together when we meet them but even if they don’t, why is house ownership considered so much more important than having fabulous memories, and starting your married life together with an amazing experience? Especially when the days of owning a house to be financially comfortable are pretty much a thing of the past…

I put the question out to our Facebook audience and Hertfordshire bridal shop Brides of Berkhamsted hit the nail on the head:

Our client Nik, who married the lovely Rachael at Easthampstead Park in April, agreed:

Nik-comment

Nik makes a really good point here that I discussed on air. Many couples don’t need the toasters and cutlery sets as they already live together, so a great gift list can be developed to help pay for the honeymoon, which Nik and Rachael did. As a guest, I would be so much happier knowing I had contributed to an amazing experience rather than just buy ‘stuff’ – but then I am the sort of person who regularly buys experiences as presents anyway.

If you are considering the honeymoon to be part of your gift list, you can either use agents such as Kuoni or Trailfinders who will sort vouchers or websites such as Buy My Honeymoon or Honeymoon Promises, where you can have a list of those upgrades, special meals, treatments or essential kit, like you would your toasters, and your guests can purchase what they want. I personally think these lists are lovely!

You can see samples of these lists here

As Nik says, saving for a house deposit is a much bigger deal. You may spend 3k on a honeymoon, yet need 13k for your house deposit, so it’s not really the same thing. Book your honeymoon of a lifetime and start your married life together with an amazing experience I say!

Pippa & Alex’s Crazy Hat theme wedding taster! Cambridge Union Wedding Photography

We were so excited about Pippa & Alex’s wedding theme of ‘formal wedding attire from the chin down, go crazy from the chin up.’ Our lovely couple wanted to embrace their love of dressing up and we were delighted to see that their guests obviously loved it too! After a gorgeous wedding ceremony in the Corpus Christi College Chapel, it was fun and frolics all the way at the Cambridge Union Society for their reception. How could we resist having a bit of fun with them in the debating chamber with their fab headgear and thank them for letting us getting all ‘game of thrones’ on them!

Clare & Mark’s Ely Pre Wedding Shoot

After a few days of grey drizzle we were really happy when the sun shone for Clare and Mark’s Ely pre wedding shoot which they chose to have along the river. After a catch up on their wedding plans over a drink in The Cutter Inn, we let them stroll along the river together. We say to all our couples, to enjoy the period of time when all they have to do is talk, walk and kiss! For most couples (including us!) it’s very rare to get a chance to do this, and most find it very enjoyable, with Clare and Mark being no exception. When we first met Mark, having previously met Clare in a professional capacity, he seemed the ‘quieter’ of the two, yet during the pre wedding shoot he relished the opportunity to have a good snog with his bride to be, almost making Clare bashful! A clear observation we made that afternoon was how much these two laugh together, they are constantly making each other giggle and it was so lovely to be around.

We’re really excited about photographing their wedding on Friday in the art deco splendour of Eltham Palace in South London, it what we are sure will be a stylish and fun wedding completely tailored to them.

Sara & Daniel’s Ely Cathedral Pre Wedding Shoot – Featuring Abigail

Sara & Daniel came across our stand at the October 2011 Wimpole Hall Wedding Show and we all just clicked. They were adamant they were going to have a fun wedding that everyone would enjoy and so were right up our street in terms of client! They also loved the idea of having their wedding photographer present for the whole day, a fairly unique service we offer, and to capture the fun of the party in our photo booth studio. By the time we got home, we already had an email from Daniel wanting to book our services for their September 2013 wedding, which of course was a huge compliment!

Over the (almost) two years we have enjoyed regular emails and updates with the couple, which included the birth of their gorgeous daughter Abigail! When it came to their pre wedding shoot, we took a stroll around Ely Cathedral, which just so happens to be the venue for their wedding ceremony tomorrow – excited, much?!

Susan & Phil’s Grantchester Meadows Cambridge Pre Wedding Shoot

Susan & Phil unwittingly chose one of the hottest days of the year for their Cambridge pre wedding shoot, and it also happened to be the afternoon of the Wimbledon final. I guess when we booked it, we never really thought, like most of the country, that Murray would really do it, but at least the final kept some of the hoards of folk away who usually grace Grantchester Meadows on sunny afternoons. The meadows were still fairly busy with revellers basking in the heat but generally we were able to find some quieter spots.

Our couple were a bit shy at first so we hung back for a while, but, like many of our couples, they soon realised that it was actually quite pleasant to have to just kiss and cuddle your partner for an hour or so, and soon got into it! We took refuge in a wooded area as we were concerned for our fair couple in the sun, and the glare of the sunshine through the trees provided a fantastic backdrop for their images. Susan and Phil are great fun but also so relaxed, no wedding stress for these two, it’s quite clear they are really excited about their Childerley Hall wedding and we are delighted to be able to celebrate it with them tomorrow!

Annabel & Lewis’ Cambridge Pre Wedding Shoot at Rectory Farm and Hardwick Wood

The lovely Annabel & Lewis are another fantastic couple we met in the dying minutes of a wedding fair. We always believe in not packing up early, because those people who pop in late deserve a full selection of suppliers, and some of most positive bookings have come from this time of day, not to mention couples we end up having a real connection with, because we gave them time (and had a good natter) when everyone else just wanted to get home for their tea!
