Meghan and Simon’s Cambridge Pre Wedding Shoot featuring Dotty!

We’re super excited about Meghan and Simon’s London wedding tomorrow! We’ll be heading to Mayfair Library for their wedding ceremony before taking in some of the landmarks as part of their wedding photography.

In preparation, we had a great afternoon in Cambridge for their pre wedding shoot as a contrast to the London skyline which will undoubtedly feature in their wedding tomorrow. Many of you know we are total cat-lovers, so when they suggested starting the shoot at their flat so we could capture their gorgeous kitty Dotty we jumped at the chance! After cooing over the little lady for a while, we headed into Cambridge and loved taking in the sights with them. Meghan and Simon then thoroughly spoilt us by treating us to cake after at the gorgeous cafe Afternoon Tease (you should go!), huge brownie points there (no pun intended!)

It’s our turn: we’re wedding planning too after our Northern Lights proposal!

Last week we spent an an amazing five days in glorious southern Iceland celebrating Tom’s birthday. I’d surprised him with a trip staying at the fabulous Hotel Ranga, and filled the week with exciting private tours, so we would have a great week together, and not be too disappointed if the famous Northern Lights – the Aurora Borealis – didn’t show.

Well we were very excited when the hotel told us they were showing after dinner on Tuesday night, and got all our cold weather gear on to go out and enjoy the light show amongst a sky of glorious green and shooting stars, the cherry on top for my plans. But then Tom turned the tables on me and proposed!

So we’re very happy to announce that after almost seven years together, the last five working together as Cambridgeshire wedding photographers, we are now engaged! So it is time for us to plan our own wedding!

As you all know I love all things wedding and we are always delighted to be a help to our wedding photography clients in any part of their planning, so it will be interesting doing it for ourselves. People assume we have it all figured out already; on the contrary, we’ve seen so many fabulous weddings our heads are like Pinterest! We’re currently working out what we want and we have organised some initial venue viewings. Already looking at some websites I have seen the potential frustrations to a bride-to-be so I will be blogging my planning journey which will hopefully help other couples.

Wish us luck! 🙂

We are 5! Here’s a look back at the first five weddings we did…

We’re happy to be celebrating this month – we’re five years old! We can’t believe how time has flown since we decided to specialise in providing fun wedding photography in Cambridgeshire and throughout East Anglia – and beyond!

Here’s a look back the first five couples who gave us the opportunity to shoot their wedding under our former name of Liquid Photo and help us build the successful business we have now and love!

Frances and Andrew

It was Fran & Andy’s engagement which started it all, good long-term friends of Tom’s who knew his talent and asked if he would be their wedding photographer at the gorgeous Priory Hall in Suffolk. We knew it was where we wanted to go so it was a great opportunity – we didn’t let them down and the rest, as they say, is history!

Rachel and Toby

As if to test if we really meant it, Lina’s best friend from childhood, Rachel, also announced her engagement and asked if we would be their wedding photographer at the Bedford Swan Hotel. A huge privilege, which really cemented our desire to concentrate on weddings and build a successful business as wedding photographers. It was also the debut of our photo booth studio for the first time – still going strong and much replicated almost five years later!

Virginie and Adriano

Virginie and Adriano found our small but perfectly formed portfolio online, and could see the spark of talent in our work despite our still relative inexperience. They had a wonderfully relaxed wedding at Cambridge Registry Office Shire Hall followed by everyone heading to the Fort St. George pub on Midsummer Common. Such a lovely couple, and we thank them for the occasional updates we get of their little family.

Louisa and Jamie

A former work colleague of Lina’s, Louisa and Jamie wanted relaxed reportage photography and had seen our work evolve. They had a wonderful barn wedding with gorgeous flowers and fresh hops, as well as our fun photo booth studio in the evening as part of their Tewin Bury Farm wedding photography. We love this shot as it is a testament to how great a couple can look when feeling relaxed with their photographer, and it regularly jumps out of our portfolio with prospective clients. We’re very happy to be able to now call them friends.

Jennie and Aaron

Jennie and Aaron were our next couple to find us purely via Google and we are so glad they did. They’re based in Ireland but married in Ely, with a wedding reception at the lovely Old Bridge Hotel in Huntingdon. We had such a lovely relaxed day with them and were thrilled when they loved the photos. Again it is great to hear from them now an then or via social networks that they are well!

Without these couples taking a leap of faith in (at the time) Tom’s talent and Lina’s marketing and business skills, we wouldn’t be where we are today, very happy as successful wedding photographers grateful to be doing a job we love. It is a huge honour to share this special day with a couple, and having shot well over 100 weddings now, I don’t think we will ever get tired of what we do, so thank you to everyone who has played their part in getting us here!

Diane & Gareth’s Cambridge Pre Wedding Shoot at Hardwick Wood

We had a very muddy but fun afternoon with Diane & Gareth on their Cambridgeshire pre wedding shoot today at Hardwick Wood! Amid the squelchy mud puddles and many double entendres, we love this tender moment in the setting sun, romantic yet they are still making each other laugh which they did all afternoon… Thanks for a fun afternoon guys (and for coping with all the mud!) and we are so looking forward to shooting your wedding at the Cambridge Belfry in June!

Wedding in a Winter Wonderland: Choosing a Winter Wedding

For many people, the vision of an English wedding contains imagery of spring flowers and bunting, or bright marquees and supping champagne in the hazy summer sunshine, but I think there is a lot to be said for the fantastic warm glow and glamour of a winter wedding, and we love them. I have occasionally found myself fantasizing over Pinterest about a sparking and silvery winter wonderland wedding with twinkly lights and guests in ball gowns…

South Farm Wedding Photography

Anyway, enough of my theatrical mind, if you have no preference on time of year, it’s definitely worth considering a winter wedding. For starters, many venues and suppliers consider the winter months as low season so you can make some great savings compared to getting married in the summer. Also, let’s be realistic, here in the UK you just can’t predict the weather, even in the height of summer, so it makes sense whenever you choose your date to pick a venue that looks great on the inside as well as outside. For a winter wedding, this is even more important, as the last thing you want to have is a less desirable wet weather option. We’ve shot at venues with fantastic outdoor weather options, but if it rains you find yourself saying ‘I do’ in a conference room – probably not what you had in mind. When choosing, look for a venue that you would be happy spending the whole day indoors. Ask the venue if they have any albums of winter wedding photography so you can see where group photos ended up being taken for example.

When it comes to winter wedding photography, we also keep an eye on the weather and on the light. Whereas in the summer, marrying at three or four in the afternoon still works well for your reception drinks and group shots, anything later than two from October to February will have you fighting against the setting sun. Low winter light looks gorgeous though, so choose a photographer who will thrive in the conditions and not just flash away because it’s getting dark.

Winter Wedding

When we are shooting a winter wedding, we have a careful consideration for our couple and all their guests, so if it is a particularly cold or damp day, we will advise against dragging them outside for your group photos, and endeavour to chose an indoor position if the couple are happy, bar the big group shot if possible. Saying that, we have persuaded a venue to let us do an indoor group confetti shot before!

Indoor confetti

Even if it is chilly or raining, we still like to take the bride and groom outside if they are willing, as raindrops look very pretty, especially in low light. If you are worried about getting cold in your wedding dress it’s also a fantastic excuse to treat yourself to a luxurious faux fur stole or shrug, although many of our winter brides find adrenaline kicks in and they don’t get cold at all.

A winter wedding also allows you to create an atmosphere with your theme, maybe it’s ice whites and berries, or go all out and get Christmassy with your decor.  On a  chilly December day consider swapping canapés and champagne for mince pies and mulled wine as a warming treat after your ceremony. Whatever you choose, your guests will surely be in party mood especially if it is close to Christmas, as your party can really kick off their party season!

Key tips:

#Choose a venue that will look great if you stay indoors all day
#Make sure your photographer has different options for your wedding photos
#Have some sort of shrug or jacket for over your dress in case you get cold
#Think about bringing seasonal touches into your decor and menu

Georgie and Chris’ Hertfordshire Pre Wedding Shoot at Stanborough Park Welwyn

Georgie and Chris came to us after Georgie’s sister found us on FreeIndex, and as soon as we met them we knew we wanted to shoot their wedding. Chris professed to be a little shy when it came to having his picture taken, so we decided to schedule in a pre wedding shoot in Hertfordshire at the lovely Stanborough Lakes as that is where they are based. However, on the crisp autumn day we got together, Chris surprised us all by taking to being photographed extremely well! Some may say he even enjoyed it 😉

We had a really fun couple of hours with them and here’s a selection from the day ahead of their wedding at Hotel Felix in Cambridge in December.
