Over the last few years, October has steadily grown as a key player in the wedding calendar and extended the main wedding season. It’s a glorious time of year to get married or have a beautifully autumnal engagement or family photo shoot, as seen in our October first look post.  Here is a more in depth look at our October wedding photography.

We kicked off the month with Christine and Lee’s day which encompassed all their favourite things; vehicles (see their drifting engagement shoot here), Disney and Chinese food – what’s not to love? Their tipi wedding reception was held in one of the best tipi wedding venues we’ve seen, St Paul’s Walden Bury near Hitchin. It was an absolute fairy tale wedding, Christine arrived at the church an actual Cinderella carriage! Not to mention her epic Cinderella Irregular choice shoes… The quirky transport theme continued as they were chauffeured to their tipi wedding reception in a gorgeous vintage Chevrolet Bel Air. A vintage taxicab provided all the guests with yummy ice cream. As things kicked off on the dancefloor, we wisked them out for some night portraits under the dancefloor before heading back to capture the fun until the end of the night. What a wedding!

After shooting Ellie’s sister Alex’s wedding previously we were so looking forward to being back with Ellie, Ben and their family for their wedding at Redbourn Church. We knew this hugely musical family would once again provide amazing musical elements to the wedding and it did not disappoint. We will remember the goosebumps we felt for both Alex and Ellie’s arrival as the choir wowed. Ellie looked fantastic in her Caroline Castigliano dress and not to be outdone, how handsome is Ben in his bandsman uniform? The reception was held at the stunning Hatfield House, of which we are so happy to be a recommended supplier, and the team are always a pleasure to work with. It’s always great to be at venues with lots of trees and greenery in October and we love piles of leaves for colour. The speeches were particularly buoyant with this one, with Ellie’s dad Rod being known for his musical numbers and with the help of a large number of the guests, it was a showstopper. The evening was kicked off with the brilliant Groovestation band. The day closed with an incredible sparkler shot, 120 or so guests shimmering like stars with sticks in hand. What a fab way to end the day, along with Groovestation getting the dancefloor bouncing!

A new venue for us next, as Lina’s school friend Dean, asked us to photograph his wedding to Helena. We travelled to Colville Hall in Essex for the first time with Storm Brian trying to muscle in on the wedding. We were met with a smiling happy Helena and a busy Groom! This was a wedding in two parts, starting with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony. We’ve photographed a few of these, and they are always such a lovely intimate experience. Then it was cups of tea all round and a nice biscuit while Helena changed into her bridal grown. After their ceremony in the gorgeous old barn it was time to great the newlyweds with bubbles, always a great idea if you can’t use confetti – or just love something different. The crisp Autumnal sunshine provided a wonderful backdrop for our couple to spend some time away before joining their guests for afternoon tea – always a wedding breakfast winner – and we loved their Marvel character wedding theme. Later the couple participated in a fun game of Mr and Mrs before enjoying their first dance. We ended the night as Helena put her red dress back on for some intimate night portraits – we love the pop of red against the darkness.

Mother nature gave Fran and Rich the amazing gift of incredible weather at their South Farm wedding in the last week of the month. We’ve known Fran for a long time, she grew up in the same village as Tom and we shot her brother Pete’s wedding, so to be involved in another family celebration was a treat. We had a lovely relaxed morning with them as hairdresser Fran had a colleague work on her hair before changing into her beautiful Maggie Sottero wedding dress. Rich was ready at South Farm and enjoying getting together with fellow barbershop singers The Emerald Guard. This was our first wedding with the ceremony in the horse barn at South Farm, and it worked really well for a wedding of sixty guests. Our good friend and regular at South Farm, magician Lee Smith entertained everyone in the garden sunshine, before it was time for yummy food. Just when we thought it all couldn’t be more beautiful, Mother Nature pulled out the most incredible pink sky, giving Lina another Masters of Wedding Photography award for capturing it! They partied the night away with Pete’s band Tom and Pete before local favourites Swagger kept the party going.

Lauren was a bridesmaid at a wedding we shot a couple of years ago, so we were honoured when she and Alex chose us to photograph her big day now it was her time. We were off to Bassmead Manor Barns which is another venue which absolutely shines in the autumn, and this fun wedding was a blast. We love the Rickety Barn for a ceremony, it has such a cosy glow it’s lovely, and House of Blooms’ gorgeous greenery chandelier looked fab in the space. A beautiful blue colour scheme was complimented with a nod to Alex’s love of basketball, something we had fun exploring on their pre-wedding shoot. Our DJ favourites Lovelight Entertainment kept the dancefloor full as this lovely pair indulged us with some night portraits as we played with some new techniques, hopefully giving them some contemporary portraits that show their day was out of this world!
